Anora made a strong impression earlier this year in cinema. After premiering at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, the film earned multiple accolades, including several 2025 Golden Globe nominations, Academy Award nominations and a BAFTA win for actress Mikey Madison! The starlet — who is also known for her roles in Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood and Scream — took home the BAFTA for Best Actress and dedicated the win to sex workers.

“I want to take a moment to recognize the sex worker community. You deserve respect and human decency,” she said. “I will always be a friend and an ally, and I implore others to do the same. Thank you so much.”

Mikey also admitted that she “wasn’t expecting this” and joked that she “probably should have listened to [her] publicist and wrote a speech or something.”

The movie is a romantic comedy, focusing on Anora’s whirlwind marriage and her relationship with her husband’s family.

The film was distributed by Neon, whose past productions typically hit digital streaming services a few months after their theatrical releases. According to Elle, Neon has a deal with Hulu, so subscribers can expect Anora to be available on the platform in “early 2025.”

Mikey, Mark Eydelshteyn, Yura Borisov, Karren Karagulian, Vache Tovmasyan, Aleksei Serebryakov, and Darya Ekamasova are all featured in the cast.

Madison, who portrays the titular character Anora, has earned an Oscar nomination for Best Actress, while Borisov has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress. Notably, Borisov has also become the first Russian actor to be nominated in a performance category since 1977.

Madison has already appeared in several well-known projects. Her two most famous roles so far were in Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood and 2022’s Scream. In both villainous roles, Madison is defeated in a literal blaze of glory: being burned alive and screaming.

While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter in 2022 about her fiery roles, Madison made it clear that she was ready to move on from devious killer characters.

“I think I’m pretty much done with that. Two is enough,” she quipped at the time. “It’s funny. Honestly, I saw them as two completely different characters with that random coincidence.”

Although both of her roles were considered similar by audiences, Madison pointed out that she, in reality, is “very different from the characters [she’s] played and the projects [she’s] done.”

“I don’t think I’ve ever done a project where I feel similar to the character,” Madison added.
